Biblical Resources That Knock My Socks Off

(If you haven't already, check out the first post in this Bible study series before reading this one.) There is just something wonderful about sitting down with a nice book a cup of tea (or coffee, if I'm feeling like getting psyched up!). Not only does it relax my body, but it allows my mind to run like crazy through a story or an idea until I fully absorb it. Almost as a sponge, I soak up everything of worth until my mind is fat and happy. I hope you have experienced that same feeling, because it's pretty glorious.

Devotionals add a whole new dimension to the equation: the spiritual dimension. While the Bible is certainly the ultimate spiritual resource, devotionals are great resources. If you're like me, you might have been reading the Bible for a while now, and sometimes you end up seeing everything the same way every time you read it. With devotionals and other resources, you can really dig into the truth that is in the Bible in a wholly unique way.

My two favorite resources right now are the Smith Wigglesworth Devotional and Prayers That Avail Much.

Smith Wigglesworth

The Smith Wigglesworth Devotional (written by the handsome gent above) is one of those great, popcorn inspiration type devotional that can fill you right up. When I first started reading that book, I was enthralled in how deeply spiritual and yet wildly practical he was.  To give you a little background, before Mr. Wigglesworth (or Wiggles, as my wife and I call him) started his ministry, he had an incredibly difficult time speaking in front of people. However, God ended up healing him and he became a powerful teacher that focused heavily on living a practical, spiritual life full of miracles. Definitely pick up this devotional! Bonus to the book: Each page of the book corresponds to a day of the year, so you never end up going, "Where was I again?"

Prayers That Avail Much - To Pray

I firmly believe that it was through my mother's constant reading of prayers in Prayers That Avail Much that I ended up coming back to Christ. The book is filled with prayers that are almost nothing but scriptures back to back. No matter what kind of issue you're dealing with, the book has a prayer that zeroes right in on it. I am by no means the kind of person that says "You have to pray these exact words for God to hear you", but I do believe that our words have great ability to shake the world, and there are no better words to speak than those of God. Even in the short prayer in the picture above (from my Kindle version on my phone) there are verses from all over Corinthians, Mark, Luke, Romans, John and Philippians.

I would highly recommend both of those books, but don't think of it as a definitive list. What are some devotionals or resources that you'd recommend? Comment below!
