1 Corinthians 13:7a "Love never gives up..." God is the best friend we could ever have. He isn't here til you stop believing in him and turn your back on him. This is evidenced in Proverbs 18:20, "There are 'friends' who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother." This "friend" that the Psalmist is referring to is our mighty God, who is not only righteous and holy, but is our friend through his grace.

While sometimes it may seem like he doesn't exist or doesn't love us, he is forever there. Our views can become clouded, diverted or confused, but that doesn't stop him from seeking after us. Luke 15:3, "“If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them gets lost, what will he do? Won’t he leave the ninety-nine others in the wilderness and go to search for the one that is lost until he finds it?" God will never give up on you. There is only so far he can go if you are turned away from him since he will not destroy your free will, but he will continue as far as we allow in quest of our hearts.
