1 Corinthians 13:5b "...[Love] is not irritable..." God isn't irritable: When was the last time you bugged someone or someone bugged you? Just really got under your skin and you just couldn't stand them? That feeling of irritation can really drive you nuts, can't it! There are times where the tiniest things will set me off. Are you like this at times? It's a human condition, at least from a natural standpoint. I believe that if we are walking in love, irritations like that won't happen because real love isn't easily upset.

Unfortunately we often subconsciously, or consciously, believe that God is out there waiting to get mad at us. Thankfully, God isn't like my family's dogs who just wait for people to drop something remotely edible and then gobble it up. God is not in the business of snooping. He can see everything, but he doesn't see everything in order to point out our mistakes. He loves us all. 2 Peter 3:9 says, "He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent."

I'd like to make one important observation while we're on this topic: God does get angry. In fact, God hates sin! In Proverbs 15:9 it says, "The Lord detests the way of the wicked, but he loves those who pursue godliness." If you look up the word detest, you don't find any sort of nicety about it. Sin makes him angry not only because it is against him, it is against his wonderful creations. If you commit your life to sin and abandon God, there is nothing God can do but give you up to your choices. Even when we are fully committed to Christ, we are painfully reminded of our shortcomings in Romans 3:23 "For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard."
