The Gravity of Words, Part IV - The Big Question

I want to imagine that you're an astronaut floating in space. All of a sudden, you notice that you're actually floating between two planets. The first one you notice is beautiful, bright and has the most incredible pulsating light coming from it that makes you want to dance! You turn around and can't help but shudder. Right in front of you is a spot in space that is darker than space itself. You don't know how it's possible, but there you are, staring at an abyss that fills your heart with dread. Which direction would you want to be heading? You're probably thinking, "What is he talking about? I thought we were talking about the power of our words?" Well, let me explain. I believe that God gave me this revelation as a way to explain the power of our words. You see, in a way, our lives are suspended between the words of truth and life that we have spoken and the lies and evil that we have confessed over ourselves and others.

To go back to the metaphor about planets, imagine that every good word we've spoken is like filling the "planet of life", while the negative, destructive and evil things we've spoken grows the "planet of darkness". As we build up either planet, we begin to be pulled towards it. And so, if we're not aware of what we're doing, we play a game of tug-a-war with our lives. For a season of time, we will speak truth and life and we move into a place of divine joy, love and peace in our lives. Other times, we build up the dark planet and are pulled towards sickness, frustration and emotional and physical suffering.

Now I'm not saying that our words are the only factors in the condition of our lives and those around us. However, there are many evils that can be defeated through the word of God and truth. God's word is does not fail the purpose it was released for, as evidenced what he said about his word in Isaiah 55:11 "So is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it." Our transition from a place of spiritual and emotional darkness may not be instantaneous, but it will be like taking wonderful steps towards life!

So what should we do to increase the pull towards life in our lives? Philippians 4:8 says, "And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise." Now that's good advice no matter what, but let's bring it even closer to what we're talking about with Luke 6:45, "The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks" Notice how it mentions what we speak. It could have just ended with our hearts if that was the end of it, but it went on to discuss our words. Like I've been saying, the words we speak are incredibly powerful! You may not see their affects right away, but you are definitely building something good or evil with every word you speak.

Once we've realized that we truly need to change what we speak, how can we undo all the years of construction on the "dark planet" that we've done? Thank God for his grace on our lives! Even though we may have built up the "dark planet" our entires lives, Jesus can come and obliterate its power over you and allow you to be pulled into the light of truth.

The question I have for you today is this: are you building a center of life with your words or are you building a black hole?

Pray with me for endurance as we build up the amount of truth we are confessing over our lives and destroy the evil confessions we have made.
